OUR SISTER CITY MAY BE IN DENMARK
BUT
OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS ARE
IN IRAQ & AFGHANISTAN

Local Solvang resident Pat Sullivan, a retired Air Force Colonel has started her own campaign to send personal items over to the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Colonel Sullivan states ďWe in this valley have so much. Our everyday rituals of using moisturizer or shaving cream are considered a luxury to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan that donít have these little pleasures.

Letís help them in their effort by sending some little items that could take the discomfort of war away, even if for a short time.Ē

Colonel Sullivan has made arrangements with the Republican Headquarters located at 485 Alisal Road Suite F-2, Solvang to be the location for you to drop off your donations. While the drop spot may be a political organizationís headquarters, Colonel Sullivan has stressed that giving to our troops is non-partisan. You may drop off your donation during the business hours of 10-4 Monday through Saturday. Colonel Sullivan along with several friends are planning on packaging the items beginning on November 1st in order for the packages to be sent through security and shipped before Christmas.

Some suggested items are: brushes, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sun screen, nail clippers, moisturizer, foot pads, gum, feminine sanitary products, bug repellent, flea collars (these are worn around the ankles for sand fleas), audio tapes or C.D.s, anti-bacterial spray, books and magazines, and writing supplies such as paper, post cards, greeting cards, stamps, pens, and pencils. The only limitations on sending items will be to exclude food and clothing to avoid spoilage and the fact that the military are required to wear uniforms.

There are probably many more items you will think of that would be appreciated by the men and women in the field. Letís reach as many as possible with a little bit of home.
