Solvang, CA -

The Wildling Museum is pleased to announce a new series of monthly Saturday art classes for children age 5 - 13 years old. KidKraft will feature nature-inspired crafts or environmentally friendly "upcycling" projects. Classes will be held at 2 p.m. in their Barbara Goodall Education Center at the Wildling Museum (1511-B Mission Drive, Solvang, CA 93463). Class projects and dates can be found on their website and will be published regularly on their Facebook page as well. A modest charge of $5.00 includes admission for one adult.

On March 14th children will enjoy creating a special tree; after using paints to create the trunk and branches of a tree, buttons will be glued on representing leaves. On April 25th, KidKraft will be celebrating spring by painting and decorating pots and then planting succulents in them. On May 9th, children will learn the art of collage and assemblage and are encouraged to bring items from home they may want to include, such as natural materials, tickets, buttons, and more. On June 20th, children will create jelly fish inspired by the photographs of Richard Salas featured in the exhibit on view, 0 to 60: An Underwater Adventure from the Equator to Alaska.

"We love to see families using our Education Center and visiting the Wildling," said executive director Stacey Otte-Demangate. To further that end, the Wildling eliminated admission fees for children 16 and under several months ago and have seen family admission increase since then. Otte-Demangate said, "For each of our main exhibitions we offer a free activity guide for kids and their families and have seen it increase their interest in the shows. We love to see parents and children working together on the guides."

This spring the Wildling is also hosting several student art shows on their third floor. Select students from Solvang Schools have environmental poster art on display and high school students from Midland have a dramatic showing of creative nature art in the Goodall Education Center. Next up is Montessori School and then Valley third and fifth-graders will be displaying their art of the night skies.

The Wildling Museum is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to using art to awaken a passion for nature and wilderness conservation. Exhibitions, programs and events are listed on their website at www.wildlingmuseum.org.
