Posted: Sunday, January 12, 2014
By: Jessica McLaughlin (Expired article)Solvang, CA -
The Wildling Museum is excited to offer its next session of “Natural History Field Classes with Fred and Larry” on Saturday, January 18, from 9:00am-12:00pm. Join esteemed local naturalists Dr. Fred Emerson and botanist Larry Ballard on a chartered boat to experience Cachuma Lake's diverse inhabitants from the water.
Despite the low level of the lake, recent sightings include Bald Eagle, Clark's and Western Grebes, Common Goldeneye and five species of geese: Canadian, Cackling, Snow, Ross's and Greater White-fronted. Plus, enjoy spectacular panoramas of the Santa Ynez and San Raphael Mountains. Fred and Larry will be joined by Naturalist Liz Gaspar
with the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area, who knows the lake better than anyone. Don't miss this special excursion! Participants are invited to visit the Cachuma Lake Nature Center afterwards, where the feeders allow close up views of native birds.
Class fee is $25 or $20 for Museum members, includes admission to the Museum on day of class. For more information please go to the Wildling’s website: www.wildlingmuseum.org or call 805-686-8315 to sign up. Directions will be emailed to paid participants the week of the class. An additional $10 park use fee per vehicle will be required.
