Posted: Thursday, September 6, 2012
By: Laura Kath (Expired article)Solvang, CA -
Rodney Nielsen, co-chair along with Max Hanberg of the 76th annual Solvang Danish Days has announced that long-time Solvang resident Agnes Larsen will preside over the weekend festivities as this year’s honorary Grand Marshal—and lead the main parade on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
Since moving to Solvang in 1960, Agnes has been an active volunteer for many years during the Danish Days breakfast and other festivities. Nielsen revealed, “Whether she is working the line turning aebleskiver or sifting the powdered sugar that covers them, Agnes is a constant fixture under the breakfast tent in her Danish costume and
cheerful smile. Both of her daughters have taken part in the yearly celebration; Alice, her oldest, was Danish Maid in 1982 and can be found working close by her mom during the weekend. Now a new generation is stepping in, as Agnes’ grandchildren have joined in the fun that is Danish Days.” CAPTION: Agnes Larsen, now age 80, surrounded by her daughter Alice Schlereth and grandchildren Grace and Brendon Schlereth during the 70th annual Solvang Danish Days in 2006.
