Santa Ynez Wine Tasting

Comware International, Inc., a Southern California-based web development company, has developed an online web database for wine tasting. Currently covering the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Maria, and Lompoc areas, the website provides a list of known wine tasting rooms based on their GPS coordinates, thereby allowing visitors to sort based on distance from a reference point.
The database is web-accessible from hand-held devices like the iPhone and Droid, allowing every wine wanderer to find out where each wine oasis is located relative to standard "reference points" - providing distance and direction. The most famous reference is
"The Flag Pole" in downtown Los Olivos, California, which has more wine tasting rooms in walking distance than there are cheeses in a New York deli.
The database is growing rapidly, and currently lists over 85 wineries and/or wine tasting rooms. It also contains details on specialties offered by each tasting room and allows qualified searching on specified search values (i.e., Italian varietals).
The database provides an important piece of information for every weary wine-walker: does the wine tasting bar provide food? One of the common complaints (especially among locals) of the geographical intensity of wine tasting is the potential for overdoing the enjoyment of the fruit of the vine, while not complementing it with food. In fact, one local publication has questioned whether the swarm of visitors are "wine tasting" or "bar hopping". County standards for serving food (as a restaurant) impose high overheads for the small, specialty tasting rooms, so the planned balance of wine and healthy eating are made possible by a glance at the database. Incidental information also tells whether the target venue does a walking tour (sometimes even a winemaker's tour).
The wine tasting database is supported by advertising by the local tasting rooms, also providing information on special events such as musical or dining specialties. Many of the wineries are also a venue for weddings and other festive activities.
This database is accessible at: www.syv-online.com/wine-tasting, and is a service provided by a "Santa Ynez Valley Online", a news and information site for the Santa Ynez Valley. Comware International is a 25-year old communication software company that emphasizes web development and database applications. The company is currently expanding the database, both in the local area and in other geographical areas of the wine business. Comware International can be contacted via www.comware.us, or at 1-866-279-2613.
The Santa Ynez Valley is located in Santa Barbara County, about 130 miles north of Los Angeles, and is the largest collection of American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in Southern California. (The area was the featured location in the 2004 movie Sideways.)
